Escape of the Day: Write a Novel
November 6, 2007
Write a novel. Do it! At this very moment, about 100,000 others are doing the very same.
A long time ago, I circled the month of November on some calendar and wrote “NaNoWriMo!!”–which is National Novel Writing Month. Of course, I couldn’t tell you moving box that calendar wound up in…. and so it was only yesterday that I happened across a Tom Robbins article excerpted at Vagabondish encouraging me to get my butt in gear and take part in the … festivities (if you will). In the piece, he quotes Nelsen Algren:
“Any writer who knows what he’s doing isn’t doing very much.”
Clearly, he wasn’t talking about me!
It’s already 6 days into November, and I’m leaving for Europe on the 27th. So technically I only have 21 days to write this novel. And I can’t remember the last time I wrote 50,000 words. But I’m going for it. What a ridiculous declaration, right? At least I know I’ll be in terrific company. Won’t you join the insanity!?

Good luck to you! I am writing a novel, too, but didn’t sign up for NanoWrimo. I also don’t know what I’m doing. lol.
