If you’re even remotely in the vicinity of the San Francisco Bay Area, get yourself to what critics say is America’s very best Chinese New Year Parade. Yes, it’s going to rain buckets, but it does almost every year, and remains one of the most spirited events of the year.

My experience with the parade last year was combined with participation in Jayson Wechter’s Chinese New Year Treasure Hunt . Most fun I had the entire time I lived in the city. The hunt wends through the parade and surging through a packed crowd of onlookers. Inevitably, you end the night in one of two ways: flaunting your genius and actually finishing the hunt, or drinking yourself silly in a North Beach bar. So get get drenched and get happy–it’s a brand new year!
